Horsehead Ale bowl

from $145.00

Skol means “turned wooden bowl” in Norwegian (with some Americanizing of letters) and also means “cheers”. The double horse-headed ale bowl, known as a kjenge, pronounced “shanga” was used traditionally on the west coast of Norway. The horse was an ancient fertility symbol and the arched neck and mane marks a stallion. I turn the skol from Black cherry wood, complete the finishing in two ways, either the Kjenge with traditional carving on the horsehead or as a Dala Swedish-style horse, which I call a “Double-Dala.”
